It's as parked cars have previously obstructed buses

Plans to put double yellow lines at a busy Mickleover junction could be on the way after parked cars stopped buses from getting through.

Trentbarton has held talks with Derby City Council about problems in Mickleover at the junction of Vicarage Road and Catterick Drive.

The firm says “on two occasions a Mickleover bus had to wait for a parked car to be moved”.

The city council is to launch a public consultation on proposals to put double yellow lines near the junction to prevent further incidents.

This has emerged after Mickleover councillor Alison Holmes (Con) raised traffic concerns in a planning meeting last month.

At the meeting almost 100 new homes were approved in the area.

This was despite Ms Holmes claiming Trentbarton was considering changing its routes due to the “overwhelming” traffic.

She said: “Mickleover is the size of a town with village roads and infrastructure. Everywhere is totally overwhelmed.”

However Trentbarton, which runs services across the East Midlands, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) there were “no plans” to change routes.

It also denied there was a “wider problem” with its buses in the area.

A spokesperson said: “The problems our drivers have occasionally experienced with parked cars in Mickleover are at the junction of Vicarage Road and Catterick Drive, especially at school finish times.

“On two occasions a Mickleover bus had to wait for a parked car to be moved.

“We have been in touch with local councillors to highlight the problem and looked at the junction with Derby City Council highways officers. As a result there is a proposal to restrict parking close to the junction.

“There are no plans to alter the Mickleover route and we believe the proposed parking restrictions will help ensure this does not need to be considered.”

Residents living around the streets will be able to have their say on proposals in due course.

A Derby City Council spokesperson added: “The council is developing a proposal to introduce double yellow lines at the junction of Vicarage Road to ensure buses can navigate the turn safely and without obstruction.

“A public consultation on these plans will be carried out early this year. This will give residents and stakeholders the opportunity to share their views before any final decisions are made.”
