Cannabis seized from broken-down car in Nottingham
Two 20-year-old men were arrested after drugs were found in their vehicle
An off-duty police officer’s quick thinking led to the discovery of a shopping bag full of cannabis inside a broken-down car in Nottingham.
The police constable was off shift when they noticed a Volkswagen Golf with its hazard lights on in the middle of Upper College Street late at night on 24th November 2025.
Suspecting the driver might be under the influence, the officer contacted the police at around 10.50pm.
When a response team arrived, they found two men standing near the car. Officers carried out a search of the vehicle after suspecting cannabis might be inside.
Their search uncovered a shopping bag containing multiple individual deals of cannabis in the footwell, alongside large quantities of cash.
Following the discovery, two men, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class B drugs.
One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a roadside drugs test showed traces of cannabis.
Sergeant Simon Lacey of Nottinghamshire Police commended the off-duty officer for their actions.
“All the police colleagues involved in this incident deserve praise for their actions, but this is especially true of the off-duty officer," he said.
“They showed great awareness of their surroundings and decision making, despite not actually being on shift at the time.
“After spotting what appeared to be suspicious behaviour, they did the right thing by calling it in, with police colleagues arriving soon after to investigate further.
“Those actions ultimately resulted in the seizure of multiple deal bags full of cannabis and two arrests, so it was a really pleasing outcome.”
