Cannabis grower chased down after garden escape bid in Nottingham
Redis Shahini fled from the property in Manesty Crescent last November
A cannabis grower leapt over garden fences in a failed bid to escape when police raided a Nottingham house.
Redis Shahini fled from the property in Manesty Crescent, Clifton, when the City South neighbourhood policing team executed a warrant on 20 November last year.
Officers scaled fences and shed roofs to pursue Shahini before detaining him in a neighbouring back garden.
Officers then found 263 cannabis plants, with a street value of up to £200,000, growing across three floors of the semi-detached property.
Shahini, aged 22, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to producing a Class B drug.
He also admitted knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order after officers discovered he had been deported from the UK in 2024.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (10 February) he was jailed for a total of 22 months and will be recommended for deportation on release from prison.
Police Constable Jane Gibson, of the neighbourhood policing team, said:
āThe team received intelligence this house was being used to produce drugs.
āWeāre grateful for these reports and they highlight our efforts to build trust and strong links within the community.
āThe grow was a substantial enterprise which would have made the criminals behind it a considerable amount of money if we had not acted and shut it down when we did.
āAs always with these drugs factories, the property could also have become a magnet for other criminals tempted to steal the crop and become a fire hazard.
āShahini tried to flee through neighbouring gardens but officers showed great determination to chase him down.ā
