Body found after car recovered from the River Trent
The vehicle was found on Sunday afternoon
A body has been recovered after a car was found in the River Trent.
The vehicle was located between Sandringham Avenue and County Hall around 3.30pm on Sunday (15 March).
Officers have confirmed the car is the same vehicle which entered the river near Wilford Suspension Bridge in West Bridgford on 15 November 2025.
A man’s body, believed to be the registered keeper of the vehicle, was found inside the car today (16 March) and has been recovered from the water by police divers.
Searches of the river have been taking place since November with the support of Humberside Police and a specialist Home Office unit.
The missing vehicle was identified on Sunday after an additional search by a specialist charity.
Detective Sergeant Millie Gillett, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Our thoughts are with this man’s family and they have been updated and offered support.
"While our investigation into what happened continues, we don't believe his death to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
“Underwater search teams have worked hard in their efforts to locate the car and any possible occupants since the investigation was launched.
“However, these efforts have been hampered by high river levels and heavy rainfall.
“Detectives have also been working to establish what exactly led to the vehicle going into the water.
“I would continue to ask that people do not speculate on what has happened.”
