Arson investigation launched after major fire at former Top Valley Social Club
Police appeal for information after blaze causes extensive damage and roof collapse at Potters Close building
An investigation into the cause of a major fire at a former social club is ongoing, with police appealing for information as they continue to explore the possibility of arson.
The blaze broke out at the former Top Valley Social Club on Potters Close on Wednesday, 14 October, causing significant damage to the building.
Nottinghamshire Police received a report of the incident at 7.44pm, by which time the fire service had already been alerted. Firefighters attended the scene and brought the fire under control.
No injuries were reported. However, the fire caused the building's roof to collapse and left it with further structural damage.
Police and fire investigators have been working together since the incident was reported to establish how the blaze started.
Officers have not ruled out the possibility that the fire was started deliberately and are now asking anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Constable Jim Bravant, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
"While thankfully nobody sustained any injuries in this incident, that could've easily been different.
"As this picture shows, the building sustained extensive damage as a result of this fire.
"We're still trying to get to the bottom of how it originated, so at this stage are not ruling out that it could've been lit deliberately.
"Arson is an incredibly serious offence, so we're naturally keen to find out who might've been responsible.
"On that note, we'd ask that anyone who saw or heard anything, or who has any other information that could assist us please gets in touch.
"We'd also like to hear from anyone who has any footage of the incident but hasn't shared it with us yet."
Police are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the time of the fire, or who has relevant video footage, to contact investigators to help establish what happened.
