A man remains in police custody after a woman was sexually assaulted in Nottingham city centre.

The victim was walking along Lenton Road, near to the entrance to Nottingham Castle, shortly after 1am on Thursday morning when she was approached by a man, pushed to the floor and assaulted.

A 20 year old man was later arrested.

Police want to speak to a passing driver they believe may have seen at least part of what happened.

Detective Inspector Nicole Milner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a distressing incident for the young woman involved and we have been working hard over the last 48 hours to understand exactly what happened.

“As a result of our investigations so far we have identified a car – potentially a BMW – that passed by this incident.

“The driver of that car then kindly offered the victim a lift home.

“Although he is not a suspect, we believe that this man has vital information about what happened and we urge him to come forward without delay.

“We would also like to hear from anyone else who was driving in the Lenton Road area at about 1am on Thursday morning to come forward with any relevant dashcam footage they may have.”
