There's an appeal for anyone with information to call 101 after what a local council in Nottinghamshire are calling 'deliberate acts of senseless destruction'.

The authority in Broxtowe have called it 'deeply disheartening' to see trees being ripped out and fired being lit in the local area this week.

They're urging the community to take pride in their local parks to protect them for future generations.

In a statement, Broxtowe Borough Council said: "It is with profound disappointment and considerable concern that the Council must address the unacceptable and destructive acts of vandalism occurring in our local parks and open spaces.

"We are deeply disheartened to discover instances of trees being broken and ripped entirely out of the ground at Queen Elizabeth Park in Stapleford and Banks Road Open Space in Beeston, as well as fires being lit and other acts of vandalism causing considerable damage.

"The trees planted at Queen Elizabeth Park were planted as part of the Queen’s Canopy to carry on her legacy into future generations. Many of our trees are planted by local school children and community groups, which makes it even more disheartening that their planting efforts have been carelessly destroyed.

"Our parks are vital green spaces, providing essential havens for recreation, relaxation and connection with nature for all residents. They contribute significantly to the beauty and wellbeing of our community, offering habitats for wildlife and playing a crucial role in our local ecosystem.

"The deliberate damage is not only an act of senseless destruction, but also a profound disrespect for our shared environment and the efforts of those who work tirelessly to maintain these spaces for everyone’s benefit. These actions have a tangible impact, harming local wildlife and incurring unnecessary costs for repair and replacement – costs that ultimately fall upon our community.

"The Council strongly condemns these acts and urges anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact the Police on 101.

"We are committed to ensuring our parks remain safe and enjoyable spaces for everyone.

"We appeal to our community to take pride in our local parks and to work with us to protect these valuable assets for our current and future generations. Witnessing such destructive behaviour is disheartening, and we believe that the vast majority of our residents share our disappointment and commitment to preserving our green spaces."
