Armed robber jailed after targeting people across Derby
A man who robbed people at knifepoint in Derby has been jailed.
A robber, who was armed with a knife and targeted two people within an hour of each other in Derby, has been jailed.
Adam Short, 27, attacked his first victim on Becket Well Lane on Thursday 2 October. When the man didn't hand over his phone, Short cut his neck before fleeing the scene.
Just an hour later, Short threatened another man on Arboretum Square in Normanton and stole his phone.
Both attacks were shortly reported to police and a patrolling officer noticed a man matching Short's description and arrested him. The knife and stolen phone were seized.
Short had used the stolen phone to log into his Facebook and Instagram accounts. Short had posted to his social media the previous day to ask if anyone had a spare phone as he had lost his.
Detective Sergeant Louise Munday, of the Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team, which investigated the case, said: “Short is a serious offender who threatened two people with a knife in the city within an hour of each other.
“We, like the victims and general public at large, will be very pleased to see that he has been put away for a long time.
“This is also a prime example of how different policing teams work closely together in order to serve swift justice on offenders.”
Short gave a no comment interview to officers.
The 27-year-old, of no fixed address, was charged with robbery, attempted robbery and being in possession of a bladed article.
He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to four years and six months in prison during a hearing at Derby Crown Court on Friday 12 December.
