Air ambulance called as two people seriously injured in A1 collision

Police say the road has reopened after this morning's disruption

A man and a woman have been seriously injured following a crash on the A1 that has caused major disruption through Nottinghamshire.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between the B6326 (Balderton) and A46 (Newark) at around 3.40am this morning.

The road has now reopened.

Earlier, National Highways East Midlands said all emergency services were called to the scene including the Notts Air Ambulance.

A Spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police sad: "Emergency services were called to reports of a single-vehicle crash on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

"Officers were called to the northbound carriageway between the B6326 (Balderton) and A46 (Newark) at around 3.40am this morning following a crash involving a car.

"The road was closed as officers responded to the incident, but it has since reopened as of 9.20am. It may take some time for traffic to clear.

"A man, aged in his 30s, and a woman, aged in her 60s, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries."

The road was closed for several hours with a diversion route in place.

Reports suggest some vehicles may have been stuck behind the crash for several hours.

Posting on X at 4.21am, Highways said: "The A1 in Nottinghamshire is CLOSED northbound between the B6326 (Fernwood) and the A46 (Newark) due to a serious collision involving a car.

"All emergency services including an Air Ambulance are attending the scene."
