A 72-year-old man has died following a house fire at a semi-detached property on Siskin Drive, Sinfin, Derby.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after a 999-call made by neighbours at 3:44pm yesterday.

Firefighters from Ascot Drive, Ilkeston and Kingsway stations tackled the incident, while Derbyshire Constabulary and East Midlands Ambulance Service provided support.

Crews entered the house wearing breathing equipment, but the man was already dead when they reached him.

No one else was found in the property during the fire, though a dog was rescued and taken for veterinary care.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is planned for the weekend.

Fire safety advice being offered locally

Following this incident, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service plans to send firefighters and Community Safety Officers to the area early next week to engage with local people, offer fire safety advice, and provide reassurance.

Specific details of these activities are expected to be shared on Monday

The service extended its sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased man at what it described as a distressing time.
