A new 400-seater spectator stand is planned at England’s largest club hockey centre.

The new covered stand could be built at the Nottingham Hockey Centre in University Boulevard, known for being the Midlands’ premier hockey centre and the largest in England.

The venue is home to Beeston Hockey Club, Nottingham Players Hockey Club and the University of Nottingham Hockey Club.

The facility was chosen by England Hockey as the hosts of the prestigious Premier Division Finals weekend in May – the first time in over 20 years.

Plans, submitted by Nottingham Hockey Centre Ltd, say: “The proposed 403-seat covered spectator stand at Nottingham Hockey Centre has been designed with accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability at its core.

“The design ensures that the stand provides an excellent experience for all spectators, including those with mobility impairments, while integrating seamlessly with the existing sports facilities.

“The development will enhance the spectator facilities at the Centre, providing a modern and accessible venue for a range of events.”

The proposed stand will be built on an existing tarmac area within the centre

next to pitch one and will be for standing room only.

The club says it is unique as it owns four artificial surfaces different in construction.

Pitches one and four are a nylon waterbase pitch built to international standards, and are used purely for hockey.

Pitch two is an international-size sand-dressed pitch, while pitch three is a half-sized sand-dressed pitch used for a variety of sports such as hockey, football, and lacrosse.

Plans are now being considered by Nottingham City Council’s officers.
