Stranraer Academy goes into lockdown following alleged knife threats

Stranraer Academy went into a brief lockdown after a teenage male allegedly threatened to have a knife.

Police promptly attended the incident on McMaster’s Road on Tuesday afternoon, later confirming there was "no risk to the wider public" and that no knife was involved.

The 14-year-old was arrested and charged in connection and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

A Dumfries and Galloway Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm an individual was making threats of having a have a knife in their possession Stranraer Academy grounds on Tuesday 11 November.

"The Police were called and the school was placed in a temporary lockdown of less than 10 minutes until the police and staff dealt with the situation. It was suitably defused and school returned to 'normal' within 10 minutes of the incident"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.10pm on Tuesday, 11 November, 2025, we received a report of a disturbance in the McMaster's Road area.

“Officers attended and no injuries were reported.

“A 14-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection, and a report will be submitted to the relevant authorities.

“There was no risk to the wider public as a result of the incident.”
