Two doctors based in Stranraer are going to be taking over the running of the GP services for the Southern Machars.

The local NHS is announcing an agreement for the future of the surgeries in Port William and Whithorn.

Patients at their existing Waverly Medical Practice and in Glenluce are being reassured that there won't be any changes for them.

Doctors Dan Goodare and Alan Griffin put in the winning bid for the contract.

Reacting to the move, the pair said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside the excellent teams at the Southern Machars practices.

“Together, we hope to bring stability and continuity for the patients at the surgeries in Port William and Whithorn.

“It is a privilege to be able to support our neighbouring practice and provide care for another part of our local community.”

The Deputy Medical Director at NHS D&G, Dr Grecy Bell, welcomes the news: ““We’re pleased to have such a positive outcome to the process of securing an independent contractor to deliver general medical services out of Southern Machars.

“Doctors Goodare and Griffin are extremely dedicated, with a strong desire to see these communities able to access the services they need.

“They have indicated that they’re eager to begin working with the existing teams at the surgeries in the Southern Machars to ensure continuity of care for patients."
