Man named as second fatality in crash near Newton Stewart

Driver dies two weeks after collision

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Raymond Munro has been named as the second fatality in the crash that occurred on the A714 between Newton Stewart and Wigtown earlier this month.

The incident took place around 9:35am on Wednesday, 3rd June, near Nether Barr, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki S-Cross.

Helen Flannighan, a 65-year-old passenger in the Suzuki, died at the scene.

Munro, the 72-year-old driver, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he passed away on Monday, 15th June.

Sergeant Lindsey Tait offered condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with Raymond’s family and friends. They have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them. Our thoughts also remain with Helen’s family and friends.”

Appeal for Information

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has relevant information and has not yet spoken to officers, is encouraged to contact Police Scotland.
