A man in his 60s has died following a single-vehicle crash on the short section of the M74 near Gretna.

The road remains closed in both directions at the border with England.

A vehicle crashed into a bridge at around 6.40am this morning.

Local roads are clogged with traffic being diverted.

Teachers at Gretna Primary have been stuck in the tailbacks with P1 classes being cancelled this morning.

Police are urging drivers to avoid the area and use the diversions in place.

The man's family have been made aware.
