Kippford RNLI rescue teenage boy
The young person was brought back to safety on land.
The Kippford RNLI brought a teenage boy back to safety yesterday afternoon.
The volunteer crew had received reports of someone being cut off by the tide, and before long, lifeboat Ronnie Sinclair was launched just over ten minutes later.
The conditions were described as “favourable with a force 2 breeze and slight sea state”, meaning that the Kippford D-Class lifeboat was able to speed across to the young person.
Nith Inshore Rescue, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 and the Annan Coastguard team also aided the search and rescue mission.
Around 3.10pm, the crew of three volunteers arrived on scene, where they found the casualty perched on a rock just offshore.
No injuries were reported when the teen and his fishing equipment were taken on board.
Rescue 199 arrived overhead, and the Nith Inshore Lifeboat volunteers rushed in below.
The boy was taken back to shore, where he was reunited with friends and placed into the care of the Annan coastguard team.
The RNLI crew had made their way back to the station, prepared the boat for its next callout, and the team went about their usual Wednesday afternoon activities, all before 5pm.
Volunteer Lifeboat Helm at Kippford, Ross Kennedy, said: ‘The tides in our area are notoriously tricky and it’s not uncommon to see tidal cut-offs at Southerness.
“The casualty did exactly the right thing by calling 999 and asking for the coastguard. Any attempt to return to shore could have made the situation much worse.
“As a crew, we train regularly for these scenarios and were able to put that into practice to effect a very successful rescue.”
