First of the Moffat Six gets a second shot at life
Four of the remaining five dogs are still looking for homes.
One of the Moffat Six has been given a second chance at life and is now living her best life with her new owners.
Charlotte was among five other dogs who were abandoned on the road between Moffat and Greenhillstairs in 2023 before being taken in by the D&G Canine Rescue Centre.
Her new owners, Catherine and Simon, say she has adapted well to her new home and has even had her first car trip:
“Every day, we have seen a new development in her confidence, which is immensely rewarding. She is a very loving dog and appears hugely grateful for having this chance, and we love her to bits! To see a dog’s life turn around like this is the best reward in the world!
“The centre did the most amazing job building up her confidence, but she was still very wary of strangers and, of course, had never lived in a home before, so she’s had to get used to noises such as the TV, the washing machine – all of that type of thing.
“What I was most surprised about was that she’s been clean in the house. Being so nervous, we were worried that if we told her not to mess in the house, it would shake her confidence. But she’s taken to living in the house like a duck to water and has been completely clean.”
She’s now loving life with her new best friend and foster sibling!
Back at the rescue centre, Emma Scott-Carroll says four of the remaining five are still looking for a foster family, just like Charlotte.
She says, “We still have five of the Moffat dogs here at the centre. Four of them are looking for homes; they’re on our website, but one of them, Brodie, is still quite a bit from that, so we’re doing a lot of work with him and a trainer – he’s been really enjoying that.
“But with the other four, specifically Toffee, she is ready to go. We are happy to work with adopters. Anyone interested, please reach out, and we will work with you. We’ll help and support as much as we can.
“The main thing with these dogs is building up a bond and helping them feel safe. Charlotte’s new adopters were fantastic at that, and they had lots of visits, which is really what we’re looking for. Someone with dedication and time, and who pops up regularly to build up that bond, is important.”
