Man named after fatal crash near Lochmaben
66-year-old William Laurie died in an accident on the B7020

A man who died following a car crash near Lochmaben in Dumfries and Galloway has been named as 66-year-old William Laurie.
The crash occurred around 10.20am on Sunday, 19th July, on the B7020, close to Kinnel Hook.
Billy Laurie, as he was known, had been driving a white Ford Transit van.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, where Billy Laurie was pronounced dead.
The road was closed for investigation purposes and reopened around 4.30pm the same day.
Sergeant Lindsey Tait said: “Our thoughts are with Billy’s family, and they have asked for privacy at this time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“If you were driving in the area please check any dash-cam footage to see if something has been captured that could assist with our investigation.”
Police Scotland is urging anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 1272 of Sunday, 19th July, 2026.
