A professional wrestler from Dumfries is set to compete in the most significant match of his career on Saturday, as he vies for the heavyweight championship.

Rumblemania, organised by IMPULSE Wrestling, is scheduled for Saturday, 4th April 2026 at Loreburn Hall on Newall Terrace, Dumfries.

Local wrestler Lennon Hughes, known in the ring as Sami Sparxs, will enter the headline Golden Gauntlet match as the wildcard.

Hughes, the only professional wrestler currently based in Dumfries, will face some of Europe's top wrestling talents, including reigning PBW World Champion “The Orbit Breaker” Daz Black, powerhouse women's division star “The Amazonian” Hera, and ICW star prospect Ben Rodgers.

In an interview with Greatest Hits Radio, he told our reporter Ruth Ridley that he’s already got his eye on fighting “The Prince of Pakistan”:

“I’m looking forward to seeing my chance to get my hands on Saqib Ali. I’ve always had a good relationship with him, but I’ve never actually had the chance to wrestle him.”

He added that fighting in front of his hometown could make all the difference to his performance:

“If you’ve got a loud crowd, it changes everything. It changes how it feels in the moment: knowing you’ve got a lot of people backing you, it really helps you keep going, even when you want to stay down.”

There’s a lot riding on Sparxs’ fight this weekend, as it could be a real turning point in his career.

“It will determine where I go next. If I win, this will be one of my biggest achievements yet, but if I lose, I’ll be back to that drawing board to see where I can go next.”

Promoter Just Jackson expressed enthusiasm for Sparxs' participation, stating, “Sami Sparxs has a fantastic opportunity in the Golden Gauntlet match. He’s exciting to watch, he has a smash-mouth, in-your-face style, and he could easily cause a huge upset and bring the Heavyweight Championship to Dumfries.”

Jackson added, “This wildcard entry is about giving local talent a real platform on a big stage, for a major prize, right here at home.”
