Care home in Dalbeattie at risk of closing unless 'significant improvements' are made
Care Inspectorate issues a warning regarding care standards
Munches Park House, a 30-bed care home in Dalbeattie, is under threat of closure after the Care Inspectorate issued an Improvement Notice addressing serious concerns regarding its care provision.
Staff must meet several prescribed requirements outlined under the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 to avoid potential cancellation of its registration.
The Care Inspectorate has outlined vital improvements that need to be completed by 5th and 26th October 2026, with a focus on enhancing care provision and operational management.
Critical Improvements Needed
Chief among these required improvements is ensuring that residents receive responsive care based on their assessed needs.
This includes accurately reflecting personal needs in care plans, especially for critical areas such as weight management and bowel movement monitoring.
Additionally, these plans must encompass skin care, food and fluid intake, nail care, and bathing support.
Management and Staffing
The care home is also required to provide clear written and oral instructions to staff to ensure care is delivered in line with each resident's specific needs.
There is a pressing requirement for effective leadership and management oversight to safeguard the quality of care and to assure resident safety.
This involves ensuring sufficient numbers of trained and skilled staff are on duty to meet the residents' needs, along with implementing effective systems for quality assurance.
Health and Safety Protocols
By 5th October 2026, Munches Park House must demonstrate its capability to promote the health, welfare, and safety of its residents.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: "An inspection has identified significant concerns about the quality of care experienced by residents at Munches Park House in Dalbeattie.
"We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for residents, their families and staff at the service.
"However, our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of people.
"Because of our concerns we have issued an Improvement Notice.
"This sets out the significant improvements that must be made within a specified timeframe.
"We are in contact with and monitoring the service to follow up on the required improvements."
