Charles Rocks appointed as Chief Social Work Officer in Dumfries and Galloway
Strategic shift aligns leadership under one role at Dumfries and Galloway Council
Charles Rocks has been appointed as the new Chief Social Work Officer for Dumfries and Galloway Council.
This move comes as part of the council's efforts to streamline leadership following agreed budget savings associated with leadership costs.
Instead of maintaining two chief officer positions for Social Work Services, the council has decided to consolidate these into a single role, which will report directly to the Chief Executive.
The new structure aims to enhance governance, provide strategic leadership, and maintain a strong focus on social work services throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

Currently, Charles Rocks serves as the Head of Children, Families, and Justice Services, where his responsibilities cover areas such as Child Protection, Youth Justice, Family Support, Fostering and Adoption, and Corporate Parenting.
In his new role as Chief Social Work Officer, Rocks will oversee the entire Social Work Services Directorate within the council.
With a 24-year career dedicated to social work, Rocks is known for leading change and advocating for the needs of vulnerable children and families.
His extensive experience has given him a deep understanding of the complexities of the social care system, especially in residential childcare settings, where he has been instrumental in creating supportive environments.
