While the council look into installing CCTV to monitor transport crossing Kirkcudbright Bridge, Police Scotland is investigating the footage of vehicles exceeding the restrictions.

The road over the River Dee hasn’t even been open a full month yet, and already drivers have been caught towing camper trailers or driving over in heavier motors than allowed.

A council spokesperson said:

“We are aware of footage of vehicles crossing Kirkcudbright Bridge that break the legal restrictions that are in force. Police Scotland is investigating this footage.

“In addition to the current restrictions and traffic management arrangements, CCTV will be installed to support the enforcement of the legal restrictions on Kirkcudbright Bridge.

“Footage of drivers who break the restrictions will be passed to Police Scotland for investigation.”

“As a reminder, vehicles are limited to a 3 tonne Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight. Vehicles must be no wider than 2.3 metres or 5.6 metres long. No towing is allowed on the bridge.”
