Castle Douglas Swimming Pool upgrade moves closer with key approval milestone reached
Major progress in £1.4 million investment project

A significant milestone has been reached in the £1.4 million upgrade plan for Castle Douglas Swimming Pool.
Councillor John Young posted an update on social media, revealing the project has successfully passed Gateway 2, marking formal approval at committee level within Dumfries and Galloway Council.
What are Gateway stages?
The project is part of the council’s Capital Investment Programme and must move through three crucial phases, known as Gateway stages, for full approval.
Gateway 1, which involved the completion of an outline business case, has already been met, and now Gateway 2 has been achieved following a comprehensive review.

Next steps for the swimming pool upgrade
The next step is Gateway 3, where funding will be allocated to develop a Full Business Case and detailed project design.
Councillor Young stated that these designs are expected to be finished by the end of this year.
Gateway 3 is anticipated to be submitted for committee approval by early February 2027.
If approved, this will result in the release of funds necessary for the substantial upgrade.
Councillor Young, alongside fellow Ward 4 Councillors Pauline Drysdale and Iain Howie, expressed gratitude to the community for its patience as progress continues.
