Detectives seek help following violent attack on Dunlop Road

Detectives are seeking information from the public following a violent incident in Dumfries last Tuesday evening.

The assault occurred around 7pm on 21st July 2026, when a 58-year-old man was attacked near the junction of Dunlop Road and Lochside Road.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a white man of medium build, with dark hair and a beard.

He was reportedly wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a grey jumper at the time of the attack.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's whereabouts to come forward.

Detective Constable Rachael Houston said: “Our enquiries into this incident remain ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“We know that the area was busy at the time of the incident, and we’d ask anyone who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I’d also ask that those who live in the area and have private CCTV or dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our enquiries.”
