Weymouth public toilets reopen - but it'll cost you
Spending a penny at Cove Street is now 50p a go
Public toilets at Weymouth's Cove Street have reopened to the public after a refurb by the Town Council.
They've been working on site since last September to make the facilities more accessible; with new, more efficient toilets and urinals installed; sensor flushes and taps; and brighter LED lighting.
But there's now a 50p charge to use the site, with a card reader put in place for contactless payments.
Those with a Radar key can still access the facilities for free.
Cllr Matt Bell, Chair of Environment and Services Committee, said: "I’m pleased that the upgraded public toilet block at Cove Street near Hope Square has reopened ahead of the Easter holiday, when more people will be out and about in Weymouth. The entire toilet block has been revamped, and the facilities are much improved.
“The 50 pence charge to use the facilities has been introduced to assist with the ongoing maintenance and cleaning costs involved in keeping all the town’s public toilets clean and in good working order for members of the public to use. A card reader has been installed to allow payment to be made using a bank card or smartphone. People who need to use the accessible toilet can continue to do so free of charge.”
