A new wellness room and garden has been opened at Bridport Community Hospital - to give staff somewhere to take a moment away from duties.

The space has been created through £29,000 of donations from NHS Charities Together and the Bridport Hospital League of Friends.

The area used to be a mortuary, but has been transformed into a room for relaxation and reflection.

Matthew Bryant, Chief Executive of Dorset HealthCare said:

"Every day, our staff prioritise the wellbeing of patients and their families, often facing stress and challenges. To continue delivering the best care, we must ensure we are also looking after ourselves. Spaces like this allow busy staff to take time to recharge and reset. I look forward to hearing how this space enhances staff wellbeing.

"My thanks go to our partners at NHS Charities Together and the League of Friends, whose generosity and support made this project possible.”

Hospital Senior Sister Jo Fowler said: "Huge thanks to all staff and partners who contributed to this project with enthusiasm and energy. Their dedication has turned this vision into reality, and I know they will continue to care for the space."

Dorset HealthCare hopes to create similar wellness areas at other Trust sites around the county.
