Investigations underway after suspicious heath fires near Wareham

Firefighters tackled multiple blazes with specialised equipment

Firefighters were called to the Sandford area near Wareham yesterday evening (28 March) to tackle several suspicious heath fires.

The largest blaze occurred at Great Ovens Hill, covering approximately 300m by 200m, requiring substantial firefighting resources.

Multiple small 4x4 vehicles, heavy off-road appliances, and the Unimog from Wareham were dispatched alongside water carriers to manage the situation.

The cause of the fires is currently under investigation and is considered suspicious.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the fires to contact Crimestoppers or the police.
