There've been dramatic scenes overnight as 'up to 80' firefighters worked on tackling a blaze in Upton Heath.
Investigations into what happened are set to take place later today - following the fire, which impacted an area around half a kilometre wide.
The team at Poole Fire Station said; "Approx 80 firefighters from across the Service area have been tackling a blaze at Upton Heath overnight.
"The fire has affected an area of around 300m x 500m, and crews have been using hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish it. This has been hard work in dark and arduous conditions, and we now believe the fire to be contained.
"At this stage, we don't know what caused the fire to start, but an investigation will take place once it's daylight and the fire is fully under control.
"We are accessing the site via Beacon Road so please take extra care in that area."
The fire service have since said (4.00pm Thursday 3rd April) that they're scaling back their attendance in the coming hours.
It's also had a devastating impact on wildlife, with the Dorset Wildlife Trust assessing the situation today:
The charity's thanked firefighters for their efforts, as well as their nature reserves team, volunteers, and those helping with the recovery of injured animals.
