Toilet access charges to be reviewed individually during refurb programme
The decision follows a meeting at the end of last month
Weymouth Town Council is set to change how public toilet access charges are decided during its future refurbishment programme.
Following a meeting on 29th July, the council decided that charges will now be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Environment and Services Committee rather than automatically imposed.
Councillors also postponed decisions on implementing 20mph speed limits after a recent survey of local opinions.
Councillors agreed to defer this item to a future meeting where the Environment and Services Committee will review the survey results in greater detail.
In a move to enhance local events, funding has been allocated for a pilot drone display on this year’s Firework Night, 5th November.
The short show will offer attendees a new experience in addition to the traditional fireworks and beach bonfire, with public feedback collected afterward.
Several administrative updates were also made, including agreements on a revised Complaints Policy and a Planning with Purpose corporate planning document.
The council decided not to submit a response to Dorset Council's consultation on the Dog Control in Public Spaces Protection Order.
A spokesperson for Weymouth Town Council said: “A motion was carried at Full Council on Wednesday 29th July which removes automatic charging for public toilet access as part of the Council’s future toilet refurbishment programme.
"This will instead be decided on a case-by-case basis by the Environment and Services Committee as each of the toilet blocks on the refurbishment priority list come before the committee over the next eight years.”
