Swanage school homes changes
Plans affecting homes, shops, tourism accommodation and coastal sites in and around Swanage have been decided by Dorset Council
Plans affecting homes, shops, tourism accommodation and coastal sites in and around Swanage have been decided by Dorset Council.
Among the approvals was a scheme at the former St Mary’s School in Manor Road, Swanage, where a planning obligation linked to a development of 30 homes has been modified to remove the requirement for affordable housing. The original permission covered the demolition of temporary classrooms and outbuildings, the conversion of remaining buildings to form 10 dwellings, and the construction of 20 new homes with parking and landscaping.
The developers argued that to include the affordable homes would make the scheme financially inviable, a view accepted by Dorset Council officers after reviewing the evidence.
Several household schemes in Swanage were also granted. They included permission to retain a fully panelled boundary fence at 23 Priests Road, a new rear single-storey extension at 4 Heather Close, demolition and alteration works to a stone pavilion and boundary wall at Durlston Wall, 3 Belle Vue Road, and a two-storey extension with a new outbuilding at Harbour St Bride, Durlston Road.
Other approvals included a replacement dwelling at Durlston House, 3 Lighthouse Road, a rear extension, porch and black flue at 6 Casterbridge Close, replacement windows and a garage-to-studio conversion at Woodland Rise, Atlantic Road, and use of a detached outbuilding at 19 Newton Road as short-term holiday accommodation.
