Storm Chandra: 'Danger to life' flood warning issued in Bournemouth
Emergency services urge residents to leave with river levels higher than predicted
Last updated 28th Jan 2026
Emergency warning systems have issued a severe flood alert for Lower Stour at Iford Bridge Home Park today, due to rapidly rising river levels.
Flood levels are expected to peak at 3.66 metres by 2pm today, Wednesday 28th January 2026, exceeding predictions, and posing a higher threat than similar flooding in November 2024.
People living in the affected areas are advised to pack essential items, including medications, and evacuate immediately. Emergency services and staff from BCP are on-site to help with evacuations and offer guidance. Residents are being urged to prepare for an overnight absence from their homes and to move pets, vehicles, and family members to safer locations.
Power to the site is expected to be impacted, with electricity, gas, and water needing to be turned off before the flood strikes. Those in immediate danger are advised to call 999 without hesitation.
Current levels of the River Stour in Wimborne and Throop are already surpassing thresholds at 1.91 metres and 1.70 metres respectively, where property flooding becomes likely.
The next update on this warning will be issued by 4:30pm on 28th January 2026 or sooner if new developments occur. Residents can monitor the situation online and view maps of the affected areas.
