A competition of short films for a long running film festival in the UK has attracted entries from war-torn countries including Iran, Ukraine and Russia.
More than 1,000 films of 10 minutes or less have been sent to the Purbeck Film Festival in Dorset, including 38 from Iran, seven from Ukraine and 19 from Russia.
Film makers from other countries including the US, China, Uganda and Nigeria have also submitted entries to the competition which will be judged at the end of October.
Paul Taylor, who organises the competition, said the response showed the international appeal of making films.
He said: “I am always surprised by the number of submissions and the number of countries they come from, which gives an authentic look at other cultures, which is what is badly needed now.”
The competition is part of the Purbeck Film Festival which launched in 1996.
The event is presenting more than 100 films across venues including village halls and Durlston Castle, as well as outdoor screenings at Corfe Castle, this autumn.
