A section of Lyme Regis beach has reopened after a suspected ordnance was discovered this afternoon (2nd March).

Explosive Ordnance experts have now safely removed the object.

The Coastguard said it received a report about the device at around 1.05pm this afternoon (2nd April).

The Fire Service, Dorset Police and Lyme Regis Town Council were also in attendance to help ensure public safety and an exclusion zone was put in place with people asked to avoid the area.

In a statement on social media Lyme Regis Town Council confirmed the object had been removed and the beach had reopened.
