A rockfall occurred at West Bay yesterday, prompting safety reminders for anyone visiting the area’s cliffs and beaches.

In a video shared online by Dorset Council, part of the cliff collapsed, sending people on the beach running to safety.

Dorset Council advised visitors to take notice of warning signs around cliffs, avoid the edge and the base, and stick to existing paths to ensure safety. The council also reminded the public rockfalls and landslips can happen at any time.

H2 Lyme Regis Coastguard involved in response

Lyme Regis Coastguard reported being tasked to East Beach in West Bay later in the day to assist the West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team after concerns arose about people being near the collapse site.

After arriving at the scene, speaking to witnesses, and carrying out checks, the coastguard teams confirmed that no one was trapped or required medical attention.

The teams stood down after determining the area was safe.
