Oxfordshire man arrested and murder investigation launched after incident in Poole
Police say the two men involved were known to each other.
A man in his 50s has died following an incident on Lakeside Road, Poole, which is being treated as unexplained by Dorset Police.
Officers were called at 6.46am on Sunday, 1st February 2026, to reports of the man requiring medical treatment. Ambulance services attended, and the man was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Despite efforts from medical professionals, he sadly passed away later in the afternoon. His next of kin has been informed, and Dorset Police expressed their condolences to the family.
A 44-year-old man from Oxfordshire has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Initially detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, the man was later further arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Police stated that the two men involved were known to each other.
Lakeside Road was temporarily closed to allow officers to conduct an examination of the scene. It reopened at approximately 8pm the same evening.
The area will see an increased police presence as detectives continue their inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the man's death.
