Police linking string of West Dorset burglaries in one night

Four incidents have been reported around Bridport

A string of burglaries reported in West Dorset, that happened in one night, are being linked by police with investigations ongoing.

The incidents happened around Bridport on Monday night (6th January).

They included:

  • Two men wearing face coverings approaching a property in Tower Hill in Netherbury
  • Two men of the same description attempting to break into the garage of a property in the South Bowood area
  • Attempted break-in of a garage in the Marshwood area - the padlock was damaged and the occupant challenged two men. An altercation left the victim, in his 50s with a minor injury to his back
  • Entry gained to an outbuilding in Netherbury with several Stihl branded power tools taken, including a hedge trimmer, strimmer and blower

One suspect is described as:

  • Young man
  • Five feet seven inches tall
  • Wearing a dark hooded top
  • Dark green snood
  • Beanie hat

The second suspect is thought to be a much older man, and they were believed to be driving a silver Ford Mondeo estate.

Sergeant Andrew Jenkins, of Dorset Police, said:

“An investigation is ongoing to understand the full circumstances of what occurred that night. The incidents are being treated as linked and I am appealing to anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please come forward.

“I would ask anyone who has come across any power tools matching the description above being sold under suspicious circumstances to please contact us.

“Lastly, I would also urge that any residents with doorbell or home CCTV cameras, or any motorists driving in the areas at the time with dashcams fitted, to please review their footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”
