Plans for the redevelopment of Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium have been approved by BCP Council's planning committee.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the scheme at a planning committee meeting today (22 May).

The project will see capacity increased to more than 20,000 up from the current 11,300 and a new fan zone added.

A new south stand will also be built and the north and east standards expanded.

The redevelopment had previously been recommended for approval by council officers.

Some councillors and residents had raised concerns around increased traffic, parking facilities and the height of the stands but the plans have now been approved.

In a statement on the club's website AFC Bournemouth chairman and owner, Bill Foley, said: “The granting of planning permission is a major step forward in our vision for the future of this football club and the wider community.

"This project is about far more than a stadium. It is about strengthening our connection with supporters, investing in the local area, and ensuring AFC Bournemouth can continue to compete and grow at the highest level both on and off the pitch.

"I’d like to thank BCP Council and the planning committee for their efforts over the past year. We are proud of what has been achieved so far, and this approval represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for everyone connected with the club.”
