New swings, BMX upgrades and ponds planned across Bournemouth and Poole
More than twenty play areas and green spaces across Bournemouth and Poole are set for a major revamp
New play equipment, BMX track improvements and wildlife ponds are set to be installed across Bournemouth and Poole after BCP Council awarded an extra £400,000 to community green space projects.
More than 20 projects across the conurbation will benefit from the latest round of Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy funding, with improvements planned for parks, play areas and outdoor community spaces.
The funding will support a range of projects including replacement swings at Slades Farm, upgrades to the BMX track at Haskells Recreation Ground and new slides in Bournemouth’s Central Gardens.
New ponds are also planned at Manorside Academy and Pelham’s Park, while 21 new benches will be installed in areas where residents have requested more seating, including Turner’s Nursery, Haskell’s Rec and Conifer Estates.
The latest investment forms part of BCP Council’s wider Plan for Play strategy, which is already delivering repairs and upgrades at more than 120 play spaces across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Recent improvements have included the reopening of the Kingston Road play area in Poole following resurfacing works and new equipment installations, while Treasure Island in Canford Cliffs is currently undergoing a £140,000 refurbishment.
Councillor Sandra Moore, portfolio holder for Play Strategy at BCP Council, said: “This funding will help us give children and families safe, inclusive, high-quality places to play right on their doorstep.
“From replacing worn-out equipment to investing in major upgrades, we’re responding directly to what residents have told us matter most to them.
“By improving play spaces across BCP we’re helping children stay active, supporting family wellbeing, and putting play back at the heart of our local communities.”
The council says the projects will also improve access to green spaces and support nature recovery efforts across the region.
