National Trust confirm puffins have returned to Dancing Ledge
The welcome return follows conservationists' warnings issued in March about the possible disappearance of the Puffin colony
Six puffins have made their way back to Dancing Ledge on the Dorset coast, offering a glimmer of hope amid concerns over the potential extinction of the area's last remaining colony.
The National Trust, which is monitoring the colony’s activities, announced that the birds returned in late March through mid-April.
The welcome return follows conservationists' warnings about the possible disappearance of the colony.
The National Trust recently expressed their excitement on social media, stating, "Something to shout about! All six puffins are back at Dancing Ledge!
"They’ve already been spotted showing signs of nest-building and egg-laying. A huge thank-you to the dedicated volunteers who are out there at all hours monitoring their progress."
Despite this promising development, the Trust cautions that the colony is still very much at risk of extinction.
The ongoing efforts by dedicated volunteers and the Trust are crucial in attempting to preserve this important part of Purbeck's wildlife.
