Murder investigation under way after death of man reportedly assaulted in Poole

A 45-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of murder

A murder investigation is under way in Poole after a man died in hospital days after reportedly being assaulted.

Police recieved a report at 12.46am on Sunday 14 June 2026 that a man had been assaulted outside the Parkstone Trades and Labour Club in Ashley Road.

A 68-year-old man from Christchurch was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died in hospital on Sunday (21 June).

Police say his family are being supported by specially trained officers.

After enquires following the incident, a 45-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and subsequently released on police bail as further investigative work was carried out.

It's believed the victim and arrested man were known to each other.

Following the man's death and further enquiries, the 45-year-old man from Poole was re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Dorset Police have confirmed he has been released on police bail again while detectives continue to carry out enquiries.

Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.

“We have been conducting detailed enquiries into this incident and our investigation remains ongoing.

“I would urge anyone who has any information relating to this matter and has not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.”
