Monkey found in car in Cumbria set to gain specialist care in Dorset

A marmoset is set to gain specialist care in Dorset after being found in the back of a boot of a car near Cumrbia.

Officers stopped the vehicle that was travelling on the M6 on Wednesday evening.

In a statement Cumbria Police said:

"Police stopped a vehicle travelling on the M6 near Carlisle at around 6:30pm on Wednesday 8 April.

"The driver, a man, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and drug driving.

"The passenger was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a primate, after the discovery of a Marmoset monkey in the vehicle's boot.

"The primate was initially taken to a local vet to be cared for ahead of being transferred to a specialist in Dorset for ongoing care."
