A man has been jailed after admitting to violently abusing a woman in Dorchester.

Junior Turaga, a 21-year-old with no fixed abode, was arrested and charged following an incident on 14th October 2024, during which he placed his hands around the neck of a woman and tightened his grip until she struggled to breathe.

The woman also reported a history of controlling behaviour, including checking her mobile phone to see who she had been contacting as well as making threats to harm himself, her family or her car if she did not do as he wished.

Turaga pleaded guilty to charges of non-fatal strangulation and controlling and coercive behaviour at Bournemouth Crown Court on 3rd February 2026.

In addition to the prison sentence, a restraining order was issued, preventing him from contacting the victim for seven years.

Police Constable Harry Chaplin, of Weymouth police, said: “Thanks to the bravery shown by the victim in this case, we have been able to hold Junior Turaga to account for the violent and abusive behaviour he displayed towards her.

“I hope the courage she has shown shows a message to victims of domestic abuse that they will be supported and we will do all we can to ensure perpetrators face justice.”
