Man charged with arson following A35 vehicle fire in Dorset

The fire was tackled by Dorchester Fire Station before police made an arrest

On Sunday, 7th June, emergency services responded to a vehicle fire on the A35 Puddletown bypass near the Troytown junction in Dorset.

The incident was reported at 5:22 am, and a crew from Dorchester Fire Station was mobilised to the scene at 5:26 am.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the car engulfed in flames in the bushes on the side of the bypass.

Using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets, the team worked to suppress the fire and secure the area.

Dorset Police also attended the scene.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the event and charged with arson.

Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 5.22am on Sunday 7 June 2026 of a vehicle fire at the Troytown junction on the A35 Puddletown bypass.

"Officers attended, along with the fire service.

"The fire was extinguished and officers left the scene at around 8.45am.

"A man aged in his 30s was arrested and has now been charged with arson.

"He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 June 2026."
