A number of homes have been evacuated, after a suspected explosive device was found at a property in Christchurch.

Dorset Police have arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences following the discovery on Suffolk Avenue.

A force spokesman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 9.35am on Monday 15 June 2026 that officers conducting arrest enquiries at an address in Suffolk Avenue in Christchurch had discovered a suspected explosive device.

“An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team is attending the scene, and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution for the safety of members of the public. This has included the evacuation of properties in the immediate vicinity.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remains in police custody.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding as we respond to this incident.”
