Fireworks displays in Bournemouth and Poole to return this week
Displays were previously cancelled due to a risk of wildfires
Fireworks in Bournemouth and Poole will be going ahead this week after previously displays were cancelled due to a risk of wildfires – with additional displays planned.
The shows, a regular part of the summer calendar, were called off due to wildfire concerns following a government emergency alert on Friday, August 14.
The alert warned residents not to light anything that could spark a blaze, including barbecues and bonfires, amid heightened wildfire risk.
The Bournemouth beach displays usually run every Friday at 10pm from the end of July and were originally scheduled to continue until August 28.
Poole Quay had four Thursday displays planned throughout August, with the last originally due on August 27.
BCP Council has announced today that following discussions with partners, including emergency services, and a reduction in the wildfire risk across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, summer firework displays will return to Poole Quay on August 27 and Bournemouth beach on August 28.
The local authority has also announced that an additional display will take place next week at Poole Quay on September 3, and at Bournemouth beach on September 4.
These additional displays will be run at no additional cost to the council.
The council also confirmed that displays will start at 10pm with the event at Poole Quay featuring live music and family entertainment leading up to the fireworks finale.
