Firefighters tackle farmland fire in West Dorset

The blaze, roughly the size of twenty football pitches, has destroyed around thirty acres of crops.

Firefighters have tackled a huge farmland fire in Kingston Russell.

Crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service were called to reports of a field fire between Kingston Russell Farm Road to Dairy Lane, Kingston Russell at around 1pm this afternoon (8 July).

The fire service said around 30 acres of semi cut standing crop was found to be alight when they arrived.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire with the help of the local farmer who used machinery to create a fire break and prevent it spreading.

The fire was confirmed to be out by 2:48pm.
