Firefighters in Cheselbourne have extinguished a large blaze that swept through a field of spring barley, reportedly sparked by farm machinery.

According to Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, the incident in Drake's Lane began around 6.30 yesterday evening (Weds 1st July), with crews from various locations including Dorchester, Blandford, and Weymouth attending.

The fire covered approximately 27 hectares, presenting multiple seats of fire.

Crews utilised various firefighting equipment, including beaters, hose reel jets, and farm machinery, to battle the flames.

The operation lasted just over an hour.
