Over 110 drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving during Dorset Police's December crackdown.
Running between 1st December 2025 and 1st January 2026 as part of the Op Limit campaign, officers made 118 arrests. This marks an increase from December 2024, which saw 107 arrests.
Of those arrested, 66 were suspected of drink driving, while 52 were for drug driving. The ages of those arrested ranged from 17 to 69, and approximately 79 per cent were men.
The Roads Policing Team used a combination of tactics during the campaign, including stop check sites, intelligence-led stops, proactive patrols, and reports from the public. Dorset Police received 316 calls throughout December from the public, reporting concerns of driving under the influence.
Inspector Joe Wheable of the Roads Policing Team reiterated the seriousness of the campaign’s aim.
"It is concerning that people are still choosing to drink or drug drive, putting themselves and others at risk," Inspector Wheable said.
"We are relentless and highly-trained, taking a robust approach year-round to tackle this behaviour, acting on public reports, intelligence-led stops, and proactive patrols."
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick added his endorsement of the operation.
"Dorset Police’s December Op Limit has delivered strong results and demonstrated their determination to keep communities safe during the busy festive period," Sidwick said.
"Tougher sanctions combined with robust enforcement can prevent behaviours that lead to dangerous consequences for families and communities."
Dorset Police urges residents to report suspected drink or drug drivers by dialling 999 and providing details such as the vehicle make, model, registration number, and direction of travel.
