Dorset Council commits Government funding for Osprey Quay Special School on Portland
Dorset Council said the school will provide up to 75 places for children and young people.
Dorset Council has confirmed that it will use Government funding to proceed with the development of the Osprey Quay Special School on Portland.
The council opted to continue with the Department for Education-led project rather than an alternative funding arrangement.
The school will provide up to 75 places for children and young people.
Councillor Clare Sutton, Cabinet Portfolio Member for Children’s Service said the school is centre to the council's ambiton to improving educational outcomes and ensuring every child has access to high quality provision.
"This is particularly critical in Weymouth and Portland, given the entrenched deprivation experienced by many children in the area. Five areas in Weymouth and Portland have been identified as being in the top 10% of most deprived areas nationally.” Sutton added.
The project was initially agreed in 2019 but was paused by the Government.
