Dorchester's South Street partially open again after fire
A walkway's been created near the scene of the Gorge blaze
A pedestrian walkway has been opened on South Street in Dorchester this afternoon (Friday 11th April).
It's opposite the site of the Gorge Café fire, which completely destroyed the building back in December.
The road's been closed ever since, debris strewn across the road, and the building structure deemed unsafe for the public to go near.
Dorset Council say the walkway safely reconnects both sides of the street.
Shoppers can now also get to South Street via Hardye Arcade, with Scrivens, Specsavers, and Amplifon now accessible.
The building owner's private contractors (Jordan and Faber Ltd) will continue works within the new cordon boundaries.
Dorset Council's Building Control Team will also closely monitor their progress as the recovery's ongoing.
